Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor

Tenure-track Faculty position

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan Technological University has an open tenure-track faculty position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. Exceptionally qualified candidates would be considered for an open endowed chair that is available in the Department. All areas of chemical engineering are of interest, including but not limited to biotechnology, energy & sustainability, mineral/particulate processing, chemical process safety, electrochemical processing, modeling (molecular simulation, systems, etc.), advanced separations, process intensification & design, continuous processing, advanced materials, and process automation & control. We are looking for faculty candidates with demonstrated capability in research and a strong commitment to teaching and working with students.

A Ph.D. in chemical engineering or closely related discipline is required, with appropriate background to teach core chemical engineering courses. If you plan to be at the AIChE Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ this fall, please provide information on the session(s) where you will be making a poster and/or oral presentation(s). We anticipate bringing the finalists to Michigan Tech starting in late November/early December 2022. The position would begin in fall 2023. 

About the Department 

The Department of Chemical Engineering currently has 15 faculty members, ~ 400 undergraduate students, and 35 graduate students. Externally-funded research has more than doubled in the past five years, and the Department is on a trajectory to double its graduate enrollment over the next five years. In 2018, the MTU Chemical Engineering undergraduate program was ranked 9th in the nation and 1st in the State of Michigan by College Factual. The Department's Unit Operations Laboratory is one of the best in the nation, with two pilot-plant set-ups, numerous bench-scale processes, and a state-of-the-art process simulation and control facility. Michigan Tech's graduates are eagerly sought by industry because of our emphasis on hands-on training and rigorous coursework.
