Description
The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall 2026. We seek candidates with expertise in Smart/Digital Manufacturing, Automation, Mechatronics, AI in Manufacturing, and Human-System Integration (including Virtual/Augmented Reality). Candidates should be able to teach a broad range of courses in manufacturing and industrial engineering and develop a research program in smart manufacturing systems and technologies.
A Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited university by the date of appointment is required. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to educational excellence and student success, as well as strong oral and written communication skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in smart manufacturing areas, including but not limited to additive manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, MEMS/NEMS, bio-manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, digital twins, cloud/reconfigurable manufacturing, and AI/machine learning applications in manufacturing systems, as well as human-system integration.

Requirements
Minimum requirements include:
Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely aligned field. The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
1. Academic experience and strength in smart manufacturing areas, including but not limited to additive manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, MEMS/NEMS, bio-manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, digital twins, cloud/reconfigurable manufacturing, and AI/machine learning applications in manufacturing systems, as well as human-system integration.
2. Industrial experience in the manufacturing-related areas that will enhance teaching and research
3. Demonstrated ability in university teaching, mentoring and supervising students, and/or improving industrial and manufacturing engineering curricula
4. Demonstrated ability for authoring peer-reviewed publications and/or securing external funds
5. Strong communication skills
