Description
The Engineering Technology Department at Cal Poly Maritime Academy (formerly Cal Maritime) is excited to invite experienced maritime professionals to apply for faculty positions (Assistant Professor or Associate Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to teach, support, and expand undergraduate-level courses such as Steam, Diesel, or Turbine Power Generation, Ship Propulsion Simulation, Electrical Systems, and or HVAC/R.
The Engineering Technology Department offers degrees in Marine Engineering Technology (MET) and Facilities Engineering Technology (FET). Both programs are deeply rooted in "learning by doing", providing cadets with exceptional hands-on opportunities—whether at sea or in real-world facility contexts—preparing graduates for careers as licensed marine engineers or capable facility engineers in maritime and industrial sectors.\
This is a full-time tenure-track teaching position and will require future participation in Cal Poly Maritime Academy annual sea training on board the Training Ship Golden Bear (to be the Training Ship Golden State planned for 2028).
Requirements
All applicants are required to have: i) a bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology (marine, mechanical, electrical, naval, or industrial), or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent, and ii) a USCG 3rd assistant engineer (unlimited) license with appropriate STCW endorsements and at least 10 years’ experience in the industry OR a USCG 2nd assistant engineer (unlimited) license with appropriate STCW endorsements.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with the education, USCG licensure, and experience. Anticipated salary for an Assistant Professor is $106,000-$117,000 per year, and for an Associate Professor is $114,000 - $126,000.
