Description
Position DescriptionWe are looking for a senior mining associate to provide who will be responsible for providing support to the resources research team and look to pick up stock coverage in time. The incumbent is primarily responsible for coordinating research activities (e.g., compiling research for daily packs, updating models and helping to arrange industry meetings) and working with a senior analyst on research projects and client requests. The incumbent will also assist in fundamental research through deep dives on industry thematics. The associate must be able to present & market effectively externally to fund managers and clients and, internally to institutional sales and sales traders. Analysts should view their role as an integral part of the team's success. Effective teamwork contribution; actively generate ideas for the teams development; communicate issues that require action; support each other and ask for help when needed.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
- Support the writing of investment product, including company, sector and thematic reports
- Respond to market news, earnings releases, corporate developments and other market-moving information when necessary and in a proactive manner
- Maintain and develop financial models and databases for all stocks under primary coverage
- Conduct bespoke work for clients, supporting the development of strong key client relationships
- Support engagement with clients and relevant sales team members to communicate ideas to ensure maximum exposure/return from the time invested in producing product
- Develop working relationships with corporates, clients and government/industry organisations
- Maintain sound working relationships with Corporates, Clients, the Government, and industry organisations
Requirements
- Bachelor degree or above in business or a mining technical related discipline (such as geology or engineering), preferably with a finance and/or accounting specialisation.
- 2-5 years' experience as a research associate/analyst or alternatively a relevant industry, funds management or finance/accounting background would be considered with requisite demonstration of key modelling skills
- An industry background is preferred but not essential; those with analogous industry experience to mining such as energy, utilities, construction and/or sustainability would be encouraged to apply
- A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Masters of Business Administration (MBA) would be an advantage, but not deemed essential.
- Strong analytical skills and a strong understanding of financial modelling is core to the work that will be performed, requiring strong Microsoft excel skills and experience
- Excellent interpersonal sensitivity
- High sense of commercial awareness
- Excellent communication, relationship and management skills to both internal and external clients
- Excellent command of both spoken and written English
